Stevie Wonder donates ‘lovely’ $100,000 to Hermosa Beach girl fighting cancer
Jasmine Faulk, the 10-year-old Hermosa Beach girl fighting cancer, wasn’t feeling well before the Stevie Wonder concert last Saturday. But after praying with her father, Hermosa Beach Police Officer Everett Faulk, she was ready to go.
And she was glad she did.

Jasmine Faulk was given an unexpected treat when she appeared on stage with the legendary singer-song writer while he sang her “Isn’t She Lovely.” Wonder also contributed $100,000 to the Faulk family, which is quickly accumulating insurance co-payments while Jasmine undergoes chemotherapy and radiation.
Everett Faulk, who has worked security since 1997 for Wonder and used to be his full-time personal assistant, said that Wonder has known Jasmine and his 13-year-old son Jacob their entire lives.
“We didn’t know if she could even go,” Everett Faulk said. “I had word that Stevie wanted to sing her a song. So we tried to keep it from her as a surprise.”
After praying, the family, including mother Caroline, headed out to see their longtime friend perform at Wonder’s 17th Annual House of Toys Concert at the Nokia Theater in downtown L.A.
Faulk said Jasmine was surprised when Wonder brought them both onstage to sing “Isn’t She Lovely,” but they were both stunned when Wonder presented them with a check for $100,000.
“For my daughter, it was amazing,” Faulk said. “For me, it was amazing to see my daughter get out there and see the support of everybody and look at Stevie and just know that she has all the support backing her with her fight.”
Charlie Sheen recently made a donation to Jasmine Faulk in the amount of $75,000, and his stunt double Eddie Braun also donated $25,000.
Faulk said he is encouraged regularly by his co-workers at the Hermosa Beach Police Department who are inspired by Jasmine’s attitude during her ordeal.
“She is always telling me, ‘Dad, I want to help other kids who have cancer,’” Faulk said.
At the end of the song, Wonder handed over the microphone to the young girl, who told the audience she has cancer and she is grateful to God and everyone supporting her.
“I love you, Stevie,” she added.
