Although the kid’s store only opened in 2013, the original Gum Tree shop had a children’s section since it opened in 2008. “It was bursting at the seams,” said owner Lori Ford, who has two kids ages three and eight. Ford and her husband Will, who runs the cafe, were looking for a space nearby when a store across Pier Avenue became available. Ford only stocks things that she, her kids and her friends would want. “I am my best customer,” she said. “We try to source things from all over the world–unique things that you can’t find online or in big box stores.”
