Grunion Fish-tival at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

A cast of thousands will be on hand (or burrowing in the sand) for CMA’s Grunion Fish-tival beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 30 at teh Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
Celebrate Southern California’s very own grunion, the fish that comes out of the sea. Warm clothing is recommended.
Test your GQ (Grunion Quotient), hatch grunion eggs, learn how to make grunion origami, participate in grunion arts and crafts, watch a classic grunion video, interact with grunion researchers, touch live tidepool animals and see the many fish and other live animals in the Aquarium.
Afterwards, everyone will head to the beach to observe the spawning grunion. During the month of May grunion may be observed, but not captured. Wear an aluminum hat to greet the grunion and shield yourself from the cosmic rays of the moon. All foil-capped guests get in free. Fun prizes will be awarded for the top three grunion-themed hats.
Grunion also commonly run on beaches in Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo.
The CMA Gift Shop will be open late for guests.
