Fire breaks out on Loma Drive in Hermosa Beach
A fire broke out between two homes on the 700 block of Loma Drive in Hermosa Beach on Thursday morning.
Firefighters from Hermosa Beach were dispatched to the fire at 9 a.m. on Thursday said Hermosa Beach Fire Captain Michael Garofano. The initial fire was put out within 15 minutes, but that fire led to an attic fire in one of the homes, which took approximately an hour to put out Garofano said.
About 20 firefighters from Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance and El Segundo were at the scene of the fire. Garofano said the cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation. He also said it is unknown if anyone in either house was home at the time of the fire. No injuries or deaths have been reported and there is no damage assessment at this time for the property.
Michael Binder, a resident of Loma Drive, who lives three houses down from the fire, was home before the fire was put out.
“It’s hard to believe it didn’t just burn to the ground,” Binder said. “We got lucky.”
