Tidepool Wonders

Explore some great low tides on the rocky shore with Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Saturday, February 24, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Sunday, February 25, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring family and friends to the aquarium’s John M. Olguin Auditorium for an informative slide show, followed by a walk led by Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Education Staff to the nearby Point Fermin tidepools.

The tidepools offer protection to a variety of animals and seaweeds. Among the organisms are tidepool sculpin, sea urchins, sea hares, hermit crabs, feather-boa kelp, and an occasional octopus.  An accessible pathway leads to the edge of the tidepools.

This is a free event; however, reservations are required for groups of ten or more.  Young children must be accompanied by an adult.  Non-slip shoes and outdoor clothing are recommended for navigating the slippery, rocky shore.

While you’re here visit the aquarium Exhibit Hall, Exploration Center, Aquatic Nursery and touch tank to observe local marine life.  Discover more about the ocean in our Library, and plan to stop by CMA’s volunteer-run gift shop for a wide selection of gifts and books.  The aquarium is open weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. It is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro and is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks with support from Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.

For reservations, further information, or to receive a calendar of events, please call (310) 548-7562 or visit our website at www.cabrillomarineaquarium.org.
