An Eagle Court of Honor was held on September 30, 2012 at Temple Menorah to commemorate the achievement of Eagle Rank for David M. Frey of Boy Scout Troop 586 of Redondo Beach.

David is the son of Jonathan and Gail Frey of Redondo Beach.  Troop 586 is a Redondo Beach Troop that is headed by Scoutmaster Tim Affa and meets at Riviera United Methodist Church.

David attained the highest rank in Boy Scouts after passing his Eagle Character Board on May 17, 2012.  David joined Troop 586 in Redondo Beach in March 31, 2008 and rose to the rank of 1st class on January 2, 2009, Star on August 3, 2009 and Life on May 17, 2010.  David attended summer camps for 5 years and is a seasoned camper and backpacker.  David also attended the 2010 National Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, which celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.

The Eagle Project that David chose to lead was the construction and installation of 15 nesting boxes for the American Kestrel, America’s smallest Falcon.  The Madrona Marsh sponsored the project with funding through a grant by the Audubon Society.  The American Kestrel is native to the South Bay and is making a comeback in the area.  The nesting boxes were built by members of Troop 586 under the direction and guidance of David with a combined effort of 177 man hours of work.   The nesting boxes were placed in 13 different locations in the South Bay to provide a suitable habitat for nesting pairs.
