DUI checkpoint in Hermosa Beach on Friday [UPDATE]

The Hermosa Beach Police Department and the South Bay DUI Task Force arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence at a DUI checkpoint Friday night, said HBPD Sgt. Bob Higgins.

The checkpoint screened drivers heading eastbound on Artesia Boulevard just west of Prospect Avenue from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The total number of arrests at the checkpoint was 36. Officers made 16 arrests of unlicensed drivers or motorists operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and one arrest for public intoxication of an extremely drunk passenger, Higgins said.

Funding for the checkpoint, and others in the South Bay Friday night, was provided through California Office of Traffic Safety.
