South Bay’s Trojan Water Polo Club 16U Cardinal Team took second place in the Platinum Division at the Junior Olympics held July 22-25 in Irvine. The finish is the highest award a South Bay water polo club team has achieved in a national event. Baseball: Redondo Beach’s Julien Cojulun, a 12-year-old honor student at Parras Middle School with dual-citizenship, was selected to play for the National French 12U team that placed second to Italy at the European Championships on July 22. A member of the Sea Hawk Elite Baseball club who plays pitcher, shortstop second base and third base, Cojulun also played in the National Youth Baseball All-Star game in New York last Friday.

Rugby: The Los Angeles Royals Touch Rugby Club and Mira Costa Rugby invites kids ages 6-17 to learn the basics of international touch international at a free clinic to be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Waller Stadium on the campus of Mira Costa High School.

Beach Tennis: The Beach Tennis Association (BTA) will be holding its IFBT Endless Summer tournament Aug. 12-13 in Manhattan Beach) and the IFBT The Heat Is On tournament in Hermosa Beach Aug.. 26-27. For more information, call 310-753-2834 or visit Beachtennisassociation.net.

Fitness: Beach Boot Camps with GI Joe are underway through September 1 to help students 18 years old and over lose weight, tone bodies, build endurance, and network with others in coed workouts at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Morning sessions are held Mon.-Wed.-Fri. from 6-7 a.m. and 9-10 a.m. Fee is $220 ($242 for non-resident). Sailing: On the second Sunday of every month, Waterfront Education will be holding a Pink Power Sailing and BBQ for girls and women at South Bay Sailing, 181 N. Harbor Dr., Redondo Beach. Members of the Mira Costa High School state championship beach volleyball team Kate Reilly, Alexia Inman and Maddie Micheletti presented Manhattan Beach Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Mike Matthews with a championship ring on July 19. It was the first championship ring Matthews has received from a Mira Costa sports team.
