Volleyball:  Seven-time Daily Breeze Coach of the year Tommy Chaffins will be having 6th thru 8th grade girls volleyball clinics on Monday and Wednesdays 6-8 p.m. at Redondo Union High School starting July 21.Clinics will last for five weeks. USA Volleyball will host its Beach High Performance Championships in Hermosa Beach Wednesday through Sunday, July 16-20. Competition includes Youth-U19, Select-U17, Future Select-U15 and Future Stars-U13 (girls only).

 

The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding tournaments in Manhattan Beach on Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20 beginning at 9 a.m. At Rosecrans Avenue, a Men’s B tournament ($45/team) will be held Saturday followed by the Icaza Construction Open 4’s tournament ($65) on Sunday. For more information, contact director Kurt Peters, 310-922-6287. At the Manhattan Beach Pier, the CBVA/ROX Volleyball Youth Tour hosts its third of 10 tour stops with the Junior Manhattan Open. Saturday’s competition features boys and girls competition in the 16U and 12U divisions. On Sunday, boys and girls tournaments in the 18u and 14U divisions will take place. Cost is $45 per team. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will be hosting the Pan Pacific Beach Volleyball Championships presented by Kauai Bikini on Tuesday, July 22 at the Marine Avenue Courts in Manhattan Beach. The event features girls in the 18U division and coincides with the fourth of five AAU Summer Series tournaments that will include boys and girls 16U, 14U and 12U divisions. Thursday through Sunday, July 24-27, the West Coast AAU Junior Olympics Games will be held at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Girls in 18/16/14 divisions compete in the National Club Championships on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, boys 16U and girls 18/16/14/12 divisions will compete. Registration is open for the 2014 Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Camp for 8-12 year olds. Coached by the Mustang’s varsity team, the camp runs July 21-24 from 1-4 p.m. at Mira Costa High School.  Cost is $250. For more information and to register, email hayley.b.lawson@gmail.com.

 

Fundraiser: The Redondo Union High School football program will be holding their 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, July 26 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Sea Hawk Pavilion of off of Diamond and One Sea Hawk Way. Aquatics: Registration is now open for the 2014 Dwight Crum Pier to Pier Swim. The swim will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3. Any contestant who did not complete the 2013 Pier to Pier swim must pass a 500-meter “check out” swim held at the Hermosa Beach Pier on July 19 and 20 from 9-11 a.m. Registration for the swim is $50 and may be done online at surffestival.org or through the Active.com link. Soccer: Registration is open for boys and girls ages 5-14 to attend the 37th Annual Peninsula Soccer Camp at Palos Verdes High School from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (half day) on July 21-25 and Aug. 4-8. Cost is $240 for full day camp; $125 for half day. Camp includes guest speakers, experienced coaching staff and each camper receives a soccer ball. Basketball:  Registration is open for the 42nd Annual Peninsula Basketball Camp to be held at Palos Verdes High School from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (half day) on July 21-25, July 28-Aug. 1 and Aug. 4-8. The first and last sessions are for boys and girls ages 5-14; the second session is for boys only. Cost is $240 for full day camp; $125 for half day.
