Tennis: The second annual Jester & Pharley Phund Benefit Doubles Tennis Tournament will take place the weekend of June 20 at Alta Vista Park, 715 Julia St., Redondo Beach. Competition will be held Friday from 4-8 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The entry deadline has been extended to Thursday, July 12. Registration is $35 per person and available at thejester.org. Competition includes men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. A silent auction will be held Saturday from 5-7 p.m. Proceeds support the donation of David Saltzman’s “The Jester Has Lost His Jingle” book to children being treated for cancer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. West Coast Beach Tennis will be holding a tournament Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22 at 14th St. in Hermosa Beach. The International Tennis Federation G4 tournament will offer $500 in prize money among Men’s Singles, Men’s/Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles divisions. Open play is held every weekend at 12 p.m. at the courts in Hermosa Beach and now in Manhattan Beach at 7th and The Strand. Paddles are available. Football/Cheerleading: The Redondo Beach Youth Football and Cheer will be holding its final walk-up registration for football and cheer on Sunday, June 14 at Perry Park Teen Center, 2301 Grant Ave. from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Volleyball: The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will be holding the Tachikara Classic on Saturday, June 14 at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Competition includes Boys 14/12 and Girls 18/16/14 divisions. For more information, visit aaubeach.org or email spvcvolleyball@hotmail.com.

Beach volleyball classes are being offered for beginner, intermediate and advanced players throughout the summer on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. The six-session class is held Thursdays (6:15-8 p.m.) beginning June 12. Main Instructor is Bill Sigler, a former AAA rated player and owner of the nation’s top volleyball apparel company Smack Sportswear, who has been teaching beach and indoor volleyball for over 18 years. The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding tournaments at the Manhattan Beach Pier Saturdays June 21 and 28 beginning at 9 a.m. Men’s AA and B divisions will compete both weekend while Women’s Open and A divisions play on June 21 and A, AA on June 28. The 4 on 4 Co-ed Beach Volleyball League begins Tuesday, July 1. Games will be north of the Hermosa Beach Pier from 6:15-8 p.m. Post league refreshments at Sharkeez with Bud Light, Red Bull, Barefoot, Deep Eddy, Grey Goose, and “Fadorade” specials. Registration is open for the 2014 Mira Costa Girls Volleyball Camp for 8-12 year olds. Coached by the Mustang’s varsity team, the camp runs July 21-24 from 1-4 p.m. at Mira Costa High School. Running: Registration is ongoing for the 21st edition of the Village Runner 4th of July 5K Run/Walk to be held at 1811 Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. Presented by UCLA Health Systems, the race begins at 8 a.m. following a Red, White and Blue costume contest. After the 5K, the Firecracker Dash kid’s race begins at 9:30 a.m. A post-race party will be held at Rock & Brews. T-shirts will be given to all participants. Basketball: Registration is ongoing for the Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball (HBYB) Summer League. Open to boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grades, the league consists of two one-hour games per week beginning on Monday, July 7 and running through Thursday, July 31. Girls ages 8-14 can learn the fundamentals of basketball while improving their skill level at the ProSkills Basketball Clinic held every Sunday from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Spectrum Athletic Club, 2250 Park Place in El Segundo. The head coach is former Mira Costa and UC Fullerton standout Megan Richardson who led the Mustangs to CIF and State finals and was a four-time All-Big West player and the third highest scorer in UC Fullerton history.
