Cat burglary suspect caught sleeping in hotel cabana in Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach police early Monday arrested a cat burglary suspect who was found sleeping in a hotel cabana with the stolen items, not far from where the crimes took place the night before, police said.

Gaspar Junior Avendano, 39, of Lennox was arrested at 7:20 a.m. inside the cabana at Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach. He is being charged for three overnight break-ins at the Manhattan Senior Villas, a gated community. Police say he entered two residences and the Villas management office while victims were sleeping and fled with stolen electronics, cash, personal identification and other items.

Avendano’s bail was set at $50,000. He was arraigned in court in Torrance on Wednesday.
