Girls Night Out

Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach (CSC-RB), is taking reservations for the 11th annual Girls Night Out “Fun”-raiser to be held at The Comedy & Magic Club, 1018 Hermosa Avenue, Hermosa Beach, October 1-3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. This sell-out event “Just for Ladies” celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness with an evening of fun and humor. Entry call for artists

Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD) announces an Artist Call For Entries for Peninsula Center Library’s annual art exhibition. Cancer Walk

Sign ups are being taken for the Team Spirit Breast & Ovarian Cancer 5K & 10K Walk on Saturday, Oct. 5 to raise money for breast and ovarian cancer research, and leading treatment options at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial. Early Bird Registration ends ($35) Aug 5; regular registration is $40. Walk begins at 8 a.m. at McKenna’s on the Bay, 190 N. Marina Drive, Long Beach.

Theatre scholarships

The Professional Arts Education Center will hold auditions for fall training scholarships at the Professional School for the Arts, 1329 Sartori Avenue, Torrance. Students 10 years and older may audition and should prepare a music theatre song not to exceed two minutes (accompanist provided, no a cappella singing). Fiesta!

The Hermosa Chamber of Commerce presents the Labor Day Weekend Fiesta Hermosa! Three days of arts, crafts, food and family fun. Kiddie Carnival features a 30 foot slide, rides and games for kids from 3 to 10 years old. Also included are Pony rides, a Petting Zoo, and face painters. Free Shuttle Bus service will run daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from the Northrop Grumman Parking Lot on Aviation Blvd, approximately two blocks north of the intersection of Aviation Blvd. and Marine Avenue in Manhattan Beach or ride your bikes. Hermosa Cyclery will offer a free bike valet service just south of the Hermosa Beach Pier, featuring an on-site diagnostic checkup. The lot is open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Fiesta area encompasses Hermosa Ave. at Pier Ave.

Adults Take a Hike

Make new friends and get in shape the first Sunday of each month on an easy 2-hour, 4-5 mile hike on Manhattan Beach streets, trails, and strand. Sponsored by local chapter of the Sierra club, all are welcome. Meet 9 a.m. September 1 at Live Oak Park by the Police Memorial, 1901 Valley Dr. under the giant oak tree by tennis courts. Please join Belmont Village Dementia Support Group led by David Hart, MS who is an Alzheimer’s Association trained facilitator and is current director of Memory Care and Client Advocacy at Always Best Care Senior Services. CERT-ified

Sign-up for the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) offered by the Redondo Beach Fire Department. The training session is once a week for eight weeks on Thursday evenings in the upstairs conference room of the main Redondo Library. Taught by Redondo Firefighters and cover Disaster Preparedness, CPR, First Aid, Light Search & Rescue, Terrorism Preparedness, Disaster Psychology & Team Organization. At the end of the training there is a simulated disaster drill and graduation. For all 8 weeks the cost is $40 for residents or Redondo and $100 for non-residents. This includes received CPR &: First Aid Certification and graduation certificate. The classes are open for anyone 18 and over. Belasco Theatre Company seeking new students for fall production of “Oliver” and an additional audition date has been added tonight 4 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Hall. Kids ages 7-18 with a strong interest in musical theatre are invited to audition.
