Boston’s World Series trophy comes to Fat Face Fenner’s in Hermosa Beach

Today the Boston Red Sox World Series Trophy will make a pit stop at Fat Face Fenner’s Fishshack in Hermosa Beach, the bar considered the west coast headquarters of Red Sox Nation. A World Series trophy last made a visit to Fenner’s in 2004, when the Red Sox won their first championship in 86 years.

Gary Vincent, Boston native and owner of Fenner’s, is thrilled to have his hometown win celebrated in his establishment.

“It’s an honor to have the trophy come to us again,” Vincent said. “To my knowledge they are only making two stops in the area, to Fenner’s and to a scouting convention in Los Angeles.”

In 2004, Vincent made connections with Dr. Charles Steinberg, Executive Vice President of the Red Sox. They stayed in touch, and, after the October 30 World Series win, Vincent reached out to Steinberg in hopes of another trophy visit.

“I took a long shot,” said Vincent. “I dug up Dr. Steinberg’s business card and emailed him. He remembered me and Fenner’s and helped us get the trophy here again. He has deemed us the capitol of Red Sox Nation West.”

Boston’s 2013 World Series win was a baseball fairytale. Rebounding from a disastrous 2012 season, the Sox went from worst to first, delivering a world championship to a city in desperate need of hope and happiness after the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon in April of last year.

Droves of East Coast transplants anxious to get a look at the 24-inch, sterling silver Commissioner’s Trophy are expected to fill Fenner’s today from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Photo opportunities will be available for fans wanting to immortalize their moment with the trophy. The event is a benefit for a Red Sox charity, with proceeds going either to the Jimmy Fund or to the victims of the Boston bombings, and donations will be accepted at the door.

Come see the Red Sox 2013 World Series Trophy today, January 17, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at Fat Face Fenner’s Fishshack, 53 Pier Ave in Hermosa Beach. Visit the Fenner’s Facebook page for more information. Fenner’s is hoping for a $10 donation per person at the door.
