Best Underage Band: Blak Reign

What started out as a one-time gig for the fourth grade talent show three years ago has given birth to arguably the hardest rocking kid ban in the South Bay. Bläk Reign’s youthful trifecta – Tre Coe on guitar and vocals, John Forbes on bass and vocals and Nathaniel Harris on drums – covers classic tunes as well as original songs.

“When they originally got together they realized they couldn’t all play the same instrument, so a month ahead of the talent show one went base and one went drums,” Momager Brooke Coe said. “They’re all very musically inclined. They’re driven and practice all the time.”

The band has played gigs at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach as well as venues in San Diego and Hollywood. They also rock out a few times a year during block parties in their neighborhood.

“None of them have big egos about it,” said Coe. “Since they’re actually really good we’ve been able to get them lots of places to play.”

Their next gig will be open to all ages at the Dragonfly in LA on April 9. -CS
