Best Optometrist: Dr. Lester Silverman

“I want to become the optometrist of the community.” If this year’s Best of the Beach is any indication, Dr. Lester Silverman has nothing to worry about. His practice Look! Optometry Center in Metlox Plaza often bustles with faces familiar to the optometrist, who with his wife Angie are heavily involved in the Manhattan Beach community. He is an active member in the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club and the Foundation of Local Arts and has served on both the city’s Library Commission and the Parking and Public Improvement Commission. “It’s pretty fun,” Silverman says. “Working with people I know and like, it affords me to be a pillar in the community. It’s very gratifying.”
Silverman, who earned his degree from UC Berkeley School of Optometry, specializes in providing comprehensive eye examinations, eye disease treatment diagnosis, LASIK screening and analysis. Prior to opening his practice in Manhattan Beach eight years ago, Silverman ran practices in La Puente, east Hollywood and north Redondo Beach and New York, his native state. “Basically I try to do an honest business,” he says. “It’s a nice way to make a living because it’s a nice way to meet people and find out about them and help them with passion and care.” — EK
