“The main thing is just giving good service to people,” says Dr. Howard Stein, who after 50 years in the business has no plans to retire. “I enjoy working, mainly being with patients.” The family-owned business opened in Manhattan Village in 1981 and is the last of the center’s original tenants. With some 3,000 eyeglass frame choices and 600 sunglasses, Stein Optometric Center offers both top of the line and economical selections. “We try to cater to everybody,” says Dr. Stein, who runs the business with his son, Dr. Jonathan Stein. Between their two locations, eight optometrists are available by appointment and for walk-ins. The Center’s own lab takes just an hour to customize a pair of glasses. — EK
