Broza, Honea at Sangria, Hermosa Beach

Last January photographer Brent Broza was photographing big waves from the Manhattan Beach pier that were feathering off the Tanker Reef when he saw childhood friend Jeff Honea doing the same thing. Broza grew up on Fourth Street in Manhattan and Honea on Third. The two had been out of touch, but Broza admired Honea’s seascape paintings and Honea admired Broza’s surf photography.

Honea said he was taking photos for reference in his paintings, prompting Broza to offer his friend copies of his surf photos. That chance meeting quickly led to the idea of a show featuring Broza’s surf photos matched with Honea’s paintings of the photos.

Sangria co-owner and lifeguard Kevin Barry hosted the tandem on August 19, the date he and CBVA president Chris Brown celebrated their birthdays.
