The Beach Cities Health District is presenting a mindfulness-based stress reduction workshop just in time for the March 3 city council, Measure B and Measure O municipal elections.

Gloria Kamler of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center will lead the workshop on Thursday, February 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Cross by the Sea Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Blvd., Hermosa Beach. Kamler will teach how mindfulness can reduce anxiety, depression and stress.

Though the current election season may have added to local stress, even in off election years Beach City residents are more stressed out than residents of Detroit and post-Katrina New Orleans, according to a 2011 Gallup/Healthways Well Being poll.
