BOB Logo 2015 - Clear 4C (layers)Baja Sharkeez is a beach cities institution. It’s also pretty polarizing — either you like Sharkeez or you don’t, and if you do, you’re likely under 30. The music is loud, the TVs are bright and the crowd is loud. But even grumpy buzzards like myself have to admit that the food is pretty darn good. Appetizers like chicken taquitos, Mexican “crazy-corn” and nachos supreme are the perfect bites to enjoy with a big beer or frozen cocktail. The shrimp ceviche “El Jefe” is better and more sophisticated than it has any business being. The shrimp is perfectly cured in a tomato citrus marinade and tossed with fresh onion, cilantro, chiles and lime. On the heavier side, the “fiery” buffalo wings are lightly fried and lovingly scorch your mouth with vibrant heat. Even the guacamole is outstanding and is made fresh to order. One of the best ways to enjoy Sharkeez’s bar food is by hosting a complimentary happy hour party. Book a party of eight or more friends and enjoy a slew of free appetizers along with a “buy one, get one for 25 cents” drink special. Not a bad way to unwind.
