The boys volleyball teams from Mira Costa and Redondo opened their seasons on high notes proving their high pre-season rankings are no fluke. Mira Costa is ranked second in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll while Redondo holds the fifth spot. Both teams play in the prestigious Best of the West Tournament in Poway this weekend where nine of the top 10 teams in Division 1 will compete.

Mira Costa’s girls soccer team lost its bid to upset third-seeded Long Beach Wilson, suffering a 2-1 overtime loss at home. The defeat officially ended both Mira Costa and Redondo’s winter sports season as the Mustangs were the last team from the two Beach Cities schools to be eliminated from the playoffs. All four basketball teams failed to make it through the second round of post-season play.
