Redondo Beach Police Department have arrested a man for attempted homicide following a stabbing on the 1600 block of Hawthorne Boulevard.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, police responded to reports that a man was being stabbed repeatedly on the median at Hawthorne Boulevard and 177th Street. When police arrived less than a minute later, they found a man bleeding from stab wounds on his torso and the another man being restrained by a witness.

The alleged attacker, Kenneth James Tofaeono, 18, of Torrance, was arrested without incident and is being held on $500,000 bail. The unidentified young male victim was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for life threatening injuries.

According to police reports,  the two men knew each other and were arguing over the theft of a mobile phone. Police say the victim saw Tofaeono in the Islands Restaurant parking lot at 1609 Hawthorne Boulevard and confronted him about the theft. The ensuing altercation led to the median where Tofaeono allegedly began stabbing the victim with a knife.

RBPD Capt. Jeff Hink said that he did not believe that Tofaeono had any prior criminal record. He emphasized that this incident was not a random act of violence, and that the two men had been involved in a dispute previously.
