The rock band Fuel, who hit the scene hard in 1998 with the massively popular single “Shimmer,” brings their sound to Saint Rocke on Sunday, August 31 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 available at saintrocke.com or at the door, pending availability.
The Blue Breeze Band dubs itself as the “finest in Motown, soul, fun, R&B, jazz and blues.” They must be doing something right because they’re back in the South Bay on Sunday at Fiesta Hermosa. They are pictured here at the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach on August 6. Photo by Harold Wherry.

Eric Lindell plays Saint Rocke: Northern California boy turned Louisiana bluesman Eric Lindell heads back to Hermosa Beach on Thursday after a couple of years away. The guitarist, singer and songwriter blends the influences of his West Coast musical adolescence with the soul of New Orleans sounds to create rock that he calls “Americana.” Lindell has close ties to Hermosa, to the surf scene and to local musicians. This trip to the South Bay he brings with him a four piece rhythm section including upright bass, drums, keys and tenor sax. “It’s great to be back in California,” Lindell said last week in an interview from the road. “I’m just excited to get back by the ocean.” Thursday’s show is 21-plus and begins at 8 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. and tickets are $15. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit saintrocke.com. Saint Rocke is located at 142 Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach.

Doma Kitchen’s Backyard BBQ: Doma kicks off Labor Day weekend in style with a modern take on the neighborhood barbecue. True to the cafe’s global approach to casual dining, Doma is offering a little bit of everything: German bratwurst, beef tongue sliders, lamb and chicken sliders, and kale salad. And, since no barbecue is complete without some adult beverages, wine and King Harbor Brewing Company local craft beer will be flowing. Tickets are $25 for all you can eat barbecue. An extra $15 will get you three drink tickets. The party runs from 6 to 10 p.m. All ages are welcome, as are four-legged pals. BSIDE Players 20th Anniversary at the Standing Room: Redondo’s quirky Standing Room has long been a popular spot for local foodies to get a good burger. Now the folks behind the beef have expanded to Hermosa Beach, taking over the short-lived Establishment. Along with more space, an expanded menu with full bar and seats that aren’t in a parking lot, the Hermosa Standing Room is offering live music. The BSIDE Players, a nine-piece San Diego band with roots in Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Brazil, have chosen the new spot to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Listen to the Players’ blend of samba, hip hop, funk and rock while enjoying a seat and a meal rather than, well, standing room only. The show starts at 9 p.m. Be advised, the new spot’s only signage is pig with the letters “TSR” on its buttocks. But word is spreading quickly. The Standing Room Hermosa Beach is located at 1320 Hermosa Ave. in Hermosa Beach. For (slightly) more information, visit the the Standing Room Restaurant’s Facebook page or stop on by.

FILM

‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ at Alta Vista Park: A harrowing, epic World War I film may not be everyone’s cup on tea for weekend fun, but for the cinephiles out there, Redondo Beach is making sure you have more options than barricading yourself from Labor Day crowds and overdosing on Netflix. “All Quiet on the Western Front” will screen for free at Alta Vista Park on Friday at dusk. Based loosely on Erich Maria Remarque’s novel of the same title, the film focuses on the disillusionment of a German soldier fighting for a country and regime he grows to doubt. So bring some snacks, bring a blanket and experience what many consider an early masterpiece. “All Quiet” is a heavy, thought-provoking film, so audience discussion will likely be available to those who seek it. Alta Vista Park is located at 801 Camino Real in Redondo Beach.

COMEDY

Ian Bagg at the Comedy and Magic Club: Ian Bagg continues his residency at the Comedy and Magic Club on Tuesday at 8 p.m. He is at the club often, but Bagg’s shows are far from repetitive thanks to his ability to engage anew each night’s crowd.
