Prep athletes earn All-CIF honors for outstanding spring seasons

With their seasons — and for many their prep careers — complete, a number of local athletes earned one final award before summer vacation when the All-CIF teams for the spring season were announced recently.

Baseball

Redondo first baseman/pitcher Danny Zimmerman was selected to the All-CIF Division 1 baseball team. The 6-foot-, 235-pound University of Michigan-bound slugger batted .412 with 25 RBI, 10 home runs and six doubles during his senior season.

Mira Costa sophomore pitching ace Christian Bodlovich was named to the Division 2 team after helping the Mustangs win a share of the Bay League title and an appearance in the CIF-SS Division 2 quarterfinals where he tossed a four-hitter in a 1-0 loss to Capistrano Valley.

In Division 3, El Segundo;s Jake Palmer and  Peninsula’s Matt Frasso earned All-CIF honors and in Division 5, Sam Wilson, Jake Hammond and Marc Audet of Rolling Hills Prep were named to the team.

Softball

Mira Costa senior Elliott Estes was named to the All-CIF Division 4 softball team as a pitcher boasting a 12-2 record with a 1.35 ERA. She helped the Mustangs post a 10-0 record to win the Bay League. At the plate, she batted .430 with 21 RBI and seven doubles.

In Division 2, North Torrance senior outfielder Abbi Alexander was selected and Peninsula sophomore outfielder Stacey Surace was named to the Division 3 squad.

Members of South Torrance’s Division 5 championship team earned top honors with senior pitcher Maddy Stockslager winning the Player of the Year award and Tony Flores being named Coach of the Year after leading the Spartans to a 24-7-1 record.

West Torrance junior pitcher Mailee Newman was also selected to the Division team.

Boys Volleyball

Manhattan Beach residents JP Reilly and Brady Wedbush joined Loyola teammate Will Bantle (Pacific Palisades) on the All-CIF Division boys volleyball team.

Selected to the Division 2 team were South Torrance junior setter Kohl Kutsch and junior libero Cory Hutchinson along with El Segundo senior setter Joe Kelly.

In Division 3, Bishop Montgomery had a pair of outside hitters make the team with senior Ben Crocker and junior Daniel Matheney.
