Hermosa Beach Firefighters Fundraiser

The Hermosa Beach Firefighters Association, a nonprofit, is hosting “Alarm Comedy: A Blazing Night of Laughs” on Thursday evening, August 20, at the Comedy and Magic Club. The Hermosa Beach Firefighters Foundation benefits charitable and educational organizations throughout the South Bay through community outreach programs, direct service programs and charitable giving. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25, available at hbfireassoc.org.

 

Moonlight & Magnolias

Surf City Theatre Company is presenting its second weekend of Ron Hutchinson’s production “Moonlight & Magnolias” at the Hermosa Playhouse. Movie night on the beach

Hermosa Beach Friends of the Parks will screen the animated film “Surf’s Up” for its first annual Movie Night on the Beach on Saturday at 7 p.m. The family-friendly event will take place on the south side of the pier.

Plastic bag ban public hearing

Business owners and residents are invited to provide input at the public hearing on the proposed plastic bag ban, which would affect all retailers and restaurants in the city. For retailers greater than 10,000 sq. ft., the operative date is March 24, 2016; for retailers smaller than 10,000 sq. ft., the ban would begin Sep. 24, 2016. The public hearing will be held at the regular City Council meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. For questions about the ordinance, call 310-750-3603.
