Volleyball:  Seven-time Daily Breeze Coach of the year Tommy Chaffins will be having 6th thru 8th grade girls volleyball clinics on Monday and Wednesdays 6-8 p.m. at Redondo Union High School starting July 21.Clinics will last for five weeks. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will be hosting the West Coast AAU Junior Olympics Games at the Hermosa Beach Pier Thursday through Sunday, July 24-27. Girls in 18/16/14 divisions compete in the National Club Championships on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, boys 16U and girls 18/16/14/12 divisions will compete. The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) will be holding tournaments the next two weekends at local beaches beginning with competition at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27. Saturday’s action features Men’s B and Women’s AA divisions followed by Men’s and Women’s A tournaments on Sunday. Cost is $45 per team. For more information, contact JP Saikley at 310-220-8558. The following weekend at Hermosa Beach, Men’s Open, B and Women’s Open competition will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 and Men’s Unrated and Women’s A divisions will play on Sunday, Aug. 3. Fundraiser: The Redondo Union High School football program will be holding their 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, July 26 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Sea Hawk Pavilion of off of Diamond and One Sea Hawk Way. Martial Arts: The American Martial Arts Academy (AMAA) in Redondo Beach continues to produce winning athletes winning eight gold, six silver and 15 bronze medals at the 2014 USA Taekwondo Nationals held in San Jose July 1-7.  Coached by Master Dean Vargas, Derrick Kwak, Jr. (14, lightweight) became a two-time national champion while joining fellow Redondo Beach teammates Kamille Carbon (14, welter) and Joshua Kosloski (14, fly) as members of the USA Cadet National Team. Kwak was selected as the male athlete of the year by California Unified Taekwondo Association in 2014.

 

Golf: Trailing by five points entering the final day of competition, the West team led by Hermosa Beach’s Andrea Lee and Redondo Beach’s Robynn Ree, rallied to defeat the East and retain the Wyndham Cup at Old Sandwich Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass last Thursday. The Wyndham Cup brings together 40 of the nation’s top junior golfers in an East-versus-West team match play tournament with 10 boys and 10 girls from each side selected based on the Polo Golf Rankings. Lee is currently the nation’s No. 1 ranked girl in the American Junior Golf Association.

 

Soccer: Registration is open for boys and girls ages 5-14 to attend the 37th Annual Peninsula Soccer Camp at Palos Verdes High School from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (full day) and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (half day) on Aug. 4-8. Cost is $240 for full day camp; $125 for half day. Camp includes guest speakers, experienced coaching staff and each camper receives a soccer ball.
