3 Manhattan Beach restaurants cited for selling alcohol to minor
Three Manhattan Beach restaurants were among a clutch of South Bay establishments that were cited Friday for selling alcohol to a minor during a police sting, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.
On Friday, MBPD partnered with Hermosa Beach and El Segundo Police Departments to conduct a decoy sting throughout the three cities, police said. A minor was sent into 40 on-sale establishments, such as bars and restaurants, and 14 off-sale establishments, such as liquor stores, and attempted to purchase alcohol.
Of the 40 on-sale businesses, three in Manhattan Beach failed to prevent the minor from purchasing alcohol: Coco’s Restaurant (2620 N. Sepulveda Blvd.), India’s Tandoori (914 N. Sepulveda Blvd.) and Olive Garden (2610 N. Sepulveda Blvd.).
In Hermosa Beach, five in total were cited: Dia De Campo (1238 Hermosa Ave.), Gugu Sushi (1121 Aviation Blvd.), Paisanos Pizza (1132 Hermosa Ave.), Pedone’s Pizza (1332 Hermosa Ave.) and Vons (715 Pier Ave.).
In El Segundo, police cited ArcLight Cinema (831 S. Nash St.) and Jackson Food and Drink (2041 Rosecrans Ave.).
The agencies’ decoy sting on Friday was part of an ongoing partnership with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), which also provides training to ABC-licensed establishments, briefing training to patrol officers as well as inspections and sting operations to determine whether licensed establishments are abiding by state laws and local operating permits.
With decoy stings like Friday’s, the police departments are striving to “reduce underage consumption of alcohol through education and enforcement,” according to the press release.
Currently, 125 establishments in Manhattan Beach are licensed to sell alcohol; Hermosa Beach has 95, and El Segundo has 87.
