Two auto accidents occurred Thursday afternoon just 15 minutes and a few blocks apart on a major street in Manhattan Beach.

The first of the two occurred at 2:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes on 3rd Street and Sepulveda Boulevard. A car moving northbound on Sepulveda collided with a car moving southbound in the “gutter lane” when it made a left on 3rd Street, said Manhattan Beach Police Department’s Community Affairs Officer Stephanie Martin. One person was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital for treatment, Manhattan Beach Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Ken Shuck said.

The second accident occurred in the northbound lanes at 8th Street and Sepulveda while the MBFD units were still handling the first accident, Shuck said. A car moving southbound on Sepulveda was making a left turn onto 8th Street when it collided with a car going northbound on Sepulveda, which hit another car waiting at the light on 8th Street, Martin said.

Two people were treated on site and released, Shuck said. One person was transported to the Trauma Center at Harbor General Hospital and another person to Little Company of Mary Hospital. MBFD received Emergency Medical Services aid from the Hermosa Beach Fire Department, Shuck said.

Both scenes were cleared by 3:15 p.m., he said.
