Over 100 Instagramers gathered Saturday at sunset at the end of the Manhattan Beach pier for a selfie. In the photo’s foreground were the InstaMeet organizers Pete Halvorsen and Slater Trout. Thing 2 is the second installment of Dane Zaun’s latest series of webclips. While Thing 1 was filmed around Dane’s home in Los Angeles, this was filmed along the desolate Mexican coastline in extremely rippable conditions. In the car scene, fads come and go. Billet, pro street, mono-colored, and neon excess throw-up from the 80s and early 90s has been replaced by the equally as gaudy so-called rat rod/rockabilly car scene that’s as tired as a firestone wide white. April started out slow in North LA, but by mid month the south swells started to fill in and the month closed out with the first solid south of the season. The “Pulse of the Month” came during the last swell of the month, which was groomed by strong offshore winds. Chad Marshall and few buddies decided it would be a good idea to paddle out on single fin longboards at a pumping beach break. Chad paddled right out and into a set wave, set his line, and pig-dogged his way through a perfect drainer as if he was on a shortboard. He did this over and over as shortboarders around him struggled to make the drops. Read more »
After scoring on a surf trip to Nicaragua in 2012, pro surfer Matt Pagan and his brother Mike wanted a place where they could showcase highlights of their trip. With the norm of surf professionalism including a self-indulgent “pump-up” site, the Pagan’s felt there was more to a simple collection of clips and sponsor thank you’s.
“We thought about it and realized we didn't want to just be another brand or self promoting website,” Matt said. “We wanted to start a movement.” Read more »
