Bees

Susan Rudnicki – Guest Speaker

The decline of bees has become a significant problem for agriculture because of their use in pollinating crops. Are they dying off due to pesticides, or have beekeepers over-worked them? Is global warming a factor? Susan Rudnicki will discuss bees and their importance to our well-being. She will share her experiences as a beekeeper in our South Bay environment.

Susan was trained as a dental hygienist and became passionate about bees and beekeeping by accident. She housed a feral hive in her backyard for two years. The hive had to be removed when her swimming pool was removed to make way for a vegetable garden and backyard orchard. Later, she received a hive from a friend. That hive is currently augmented by a feral hive. The third time seems to have been the charm. Yet another hive was given to her, and as she learned more about beekeeping and bee culture, she became a competent beekeeper.

Bring our questions and curiosity for this most interesting presentation.

There will be a door prize, a plant raffle, tasty refreshments and friendly faces. Meetings are open to the public. Walk straight up the ramp to the side door for the meeting. If you would like to tour the Botanic Garden later, there is an entrance fee for non-members. Adult – $9, Students & Seniors – $6
