Happy Holidays surfers

Surf Report

Happy Holidays surfers. After another month of sub par surf I'll be glad to see this less than memorable year (for swell) come to an end. Let's wipe the slate clean and hope for a better year of waves in 2002.

Today, all west facing breaks should climb into the shoulder to head high zone, compliments of a small system that originated off of the coast of Japan. The tide will hit a low of 3.1 at 6:17 a.m. and the conditions will be clean for the a.m., with light and variable winds out of the east. The water temperature remains in the mid 50s. Pretty much everyone is wearing booties and quite a few are donning hoods. The north end of the South Bay will once again receive only a little reflective energy from this system and get no bigger than chest high.

Friday, our waves will hang on with similar size and power but just a hair smaller. Surf will remain in the head high to overhead zone and be very consistent. Conditions look good for the dawn patrol but will deteriorate as the morning progresses. The tide will hit a low of 3.1 at 7:58 a.m.

Saturday, right now looks to be the biggest day we'll see in a while. All west facing breaks should climb into the overhead + zone due to a strong system that originated off of the coast of Japan. The tide will hit a low of 2.8 at 9:47 a.m. The conditions are a bit unpredictable at this stage, as things can change quickly when a storm passes by. Your best bet will be to hit a point or reef if you can find one because this swell looks to be strong and consistent. Sunday looks to get small quickly.

There's quite a bit of activity in the northern regions and things can change quickly so be sure to check www.elporto.com for late breaking developments in the daily forecast. This is MD, the surf Dr. wishing you a safe and happy holiday season. ER
