Toy earns kids free entry in Village 5K

More than 1,500 runners are expected to start the holiday season off by raising money for charity at the 5th Annual Village Runner 5K Christmas Run/Walk on Saturday morning, December 8. The race starts at 8 a.m. at the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge, located next to the Redondo Pier, at the intersection of Catalina Ave. and Torrance Blvd.

Young runners are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Cheer for Children as their entry fee in the Little Elves Dash. The kids’ races start 9:15 a.m. with distances ranging from several blocks to one-half mile, based on age. All kid runners will receive a medal.

An old-fashioned pancake breakfast, made possible through a generous donation from Ruby’s Diner, will provide the runners, friends, and families with a delicious carbo-loading opportunity before and after the race itself. The breakfast will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. The cost is $5 per person. Strolling carolers will add to the holiday atmosphere.
