Thursday, December 6

RB Santa’s ride

It’s that time again for "Santa’s Ride" through the city of Redondo Beach. The Redondo Beach Police and Fire Associations are proud to present Santa to their residents. Santa will ride in his custom sleigh and hand out treats to those who have been good this year. The event begins tonight until Dec. 18. Pet photos with Santa

Bring your pets to The Galleria at South Bay and have their photos taken with Santa on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 10 and 11 from 8:30-10 p.m. Customers must enter and exit the mall with their pets through the west entrance (off Kingsdale). 371-7546.

Santa’s Village

Children of all ages can visit with Santa Claus from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at City Hall Plaza, 350 Main St., El Segundo. Food donations for C.A.S.E. (food pantry) and old eyeglasses for Sunshine Lions Club are being collected at this event. 322-1220.

Treelighting ceremony

The lighting of the El Segundo community tree takes place at the City Hall Plaza, 350 Main St., from 4:30-5:30 p.m. with local choir performances. 322-1220.

Holiday Mixer

The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau invites you to share a cup of cheer and seafood appetizers at Patrick Molloy’s Holiday Mixer. Bring an unwrapped gift for the Beach Cities Toy Drive or make a $10 donation at the door. 5:30-7:30 p.m. 50-A Pier Ave., HB.

Holiday tree lighting

A tree lighting ceremony is being presented at Pier Plaza, Hermosa Beach from 6-8 p.m. There will be snow from the north pole, and Santa Claus will arrive shortly after the tree lighting to hear children’s wishes. El Camino Pop Concert Band will be performing. 318-0280

Yule parlor parade

Yule parlor parade, a tour of four distinctive Peninsula homes, plus tea and music at the Neighborhood Church takes place today and tomorrow, Sat. Dec. 8 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Benefits philanthropies of Women’s Fellowship. For ticket information call 378-9353.

Sand snowman contest

Build a sand sculpture at the north side of the Hermosa Pier. Check in time is 8:45 a.m. and sculpting begins at 9 a.m. Prizes, games and fun for all ages. 318-0280.

Christmas boutique

Do your holiday shopping at the 19th annual Christmas Boutique at Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd., (between Carson St. and Sepulveda Blvd.) in Torrance. This is the largest Christmas boutique in the South Bay with over 320 booths. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. 618-2930.

El Segundo parade

The 38th annual Holiday Parade in El Segundo takes place on Main St., from Imperial Ave. to El Segundo Blvd. The theme is "Let Freedom Ring," and members of the L.A. Sparks are forming the Grand Marshall team. Parade begins at 2 p.m. 322-1220.

Community choir

Celebration Outreach Community Choir is presenting "A Warm, Cozy Christmas," a great program of songs of the season beginning at 3 p.m. Church of Religious Science, 907 Knob Hill, RB. Tickets at the door are $7-adults; $4-seniors and kids under 12. 316-2066.

Holiday fiesta

The Redondo Beach Sister Cities Committee invites you to a holiday fiesta at Las Brisas Restaurant, 1969 Artesia Blvd., RB from 6-10 p.m. Tickets are $15 and proceeds help sponsor the student exchange program for spring 2002. For reservations call 944-3940 by Friday, Nov. 30.

Family Christmas concert

El Segundo Santa’s sleigh

The El Seguno Police Officers Association and the Kiwanis Club are assisting Santa Claus with his visits to the city. The visits begin tonight through Saturday, Dec. 15. Tonight Santa visits the west end, east to Loma Vista Street. Tuesday, Dec. 11 — Loma Vista St. east to Main St. Wednesday, Dec. 12 — Main St. east to Sheldon St. Thursday, Dec. 13 — Sheldon St. east to Center St. Friday, Dec. 14 — Center St. east to Sepulveda St. Police cars with lights, sirens and music will signal Santa’s arrival beginning each night at 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. In case of a rain, a make up day is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 17. Woman’s club luncheon

The Woman’s club of Hermosa Beach is having its monthly meeting and Christmas lunch at Danos, 1320 Hermosa Ave., HB at 11 a.m. The meeting will be followed by a luncheon and entertainment. The public is welcome. For reservations call 376-4532.

Latke luncheon

Temple Menorah Sisterhood invites all to come and enjoy a Hanukah Latke luncheon with entertainment provided by Cantor Ari Perelmuter and the Tuvia Tots. $6. Please bring a wrapped toiletry item for battered women’s shelter. RSVP 373-3025.

Cheer for children

Cheer for Children has scheduled a holiday party today for handicapped children and donations of remote control toys are appreciated. Hospitalized children will be given a party at a local Torrance hospital on Saturday, Dec. 22. Volunteers are needed to help set up and decorate. A toy wrapping party is being held at First United Methodist Church in S. Redondo Beach on Thurs. Dec. 20 from 3-8 p.m. There is a need for use of a van or truck to help load and unload donations. 212-5009.

Christmas concerts

The Torrance Civic Chorale is presenting two fall concerts, tonight and tomorrow, Sat. Dec. 15 in the James R. Armstrong Theatre in Torrance. This year’s concert, "It’s Christmas Time," features the 80 voice chorale, a 22-piece orchestra. $10. For reservations call 781-7171.

Breakfast with Santa

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes’ REACH program is sponsoring "Breakfast with Santa" at Hesse Park from 9-10:30 a.m. Children and adults can enjoy a delicious breakfast, sing holiday carols, and make festive, take-home crafts. $6 includes breakfast and craft supplies. There will be numerous chances for photos with Santa,.so bring your cameras. Boat parade

King Harbor Yacht Club (KHYC) is presenting its 10th annual Christmas Boat Parade, with the theme "Salute to America’s Heroes." The parade begins at King Harbor Main Channel from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Enter your boat to win prizes for best decorated boats in seven categories, or come to the KHYC for fish chowder dinner for $8. Christmas tales

El Segundo Recreation and Parks Department with A Voice in the Well Ensemble are presenting "Christmas Tales Told by Candlelight" which includes "Yes Virginia…there is a Santa Claus," "A Child’s Christmas in Wales" and "The Gift of the Magi." The city of Manhattan Beach is presenting a firework display, rain or shine, at the MB Pier. There will also be entertainment, a Santa float, and a toy and can food drive. Events take place from 4:30 until 7 p.m. 802-5408.

MCHS holiday concert

"Scrooge"

The City of Torrance Youth Theatre Production and Performance class is presenting "Scrooge" at the James Armstrong Theatre, 3330 Civic Center.
