POL PULLED FROM POLL: El Segundo Mayor Mike Gordons met his match on election day in city halls West Conference Room, which was being used as a polling place. An elderly poll watcher took exception to the mayor pulling up a chair at the poll workers table and asked him to leave. When he refused, the poll watcher advised the mayor that she was under instructions to call the county sheriff if he refused to leave voluntarily. The mayor promptly left.
SURFING FOR GRADES: Hermosa Valley School students who earn good grades can now get as much as 30 percent off their purchases at Spyder, Becker and ET surf outlets, thanks to a new partnership between educators and the local surf industry. GOTCHA! Hermosa Mayor John Bowler marked his retirement from the city council by giving his colleagues scrolls honoring a peak moment in collective gullibility. Within Bowlers tenure the council made a heartfelt gesture, honoring a young man from Texas with a special day in his name. The man had said he was terminally ill, and cherished the time he spent in Hermosa. Later it was learned the man was pulling a hoax, on Hermosa and other towns around the country, Bowler said
