Bank bandits
Two suspects who police believe were the masterminds behind the armed robbery of U.S. Bank on Sept. 18 in Manhattan Beach were caught by police after a month and a half investigation and were turned over to the FBI, according to city police Sgt. Tony DiGenova. Two people who allegedly took over the bank during the armed robbery were caught later in the day and held on federal, no-bail bank robbery charges. The bank, located at 3300 Sepulveda Blvd., was also robbed earlier in the summer, and police believe both robberies, which arent connected by evidence, were gang related.
Sign swipes
In a sidelight to the failure of Measure Y with voters in Manhattan Beach (see story, above right), a resident who opposed the ballot item reported the theft of eight signs reading "No on Proposition Y," which he had placed at various spots throughout the city in the days before the Nov. 6 vote. Three were plucked from Rosecrans Boulevard locations, two off Aviation Boulevard and one each from placements on 24th Street, Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue. The resident told police that he had permission to place the signs from the property owners. He says the signs cost him $5 apiece. ER
