Ovations for "Titanic"
The Civic Light Opera has received two Ovation nominations for this years theatre awards. Its production "Titanic" is nominated for Best Musical, Large Theatre, and Best Set Construction/Design, Large Theatre. The ceremonies will be held at the New Hollywood Kodak Theatre, located on the corner of Highland and Hollywood Boulevard, on Nov. 12. "Were up against Disneys Lion King," said James Blackman. "Itll be David and Goliath."
A mid-November nights dream
The drama department of Redondo Union High School will perform William Shakespeares "A Midsummer Nights Dream." Performance dates are Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m., and a matinee performance on November 11 at 2:30 p.m. All performances will take place at RUHS Auditorium, on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Diamond Street. Tickets are $8 at the door for general admission, $6 for students with an ASB card. Group rates are available contact Artistic Director Sunee Foley at 798-8665 ext. 2041.
Domestic dispute and battery on officer
At about 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 25 officers responded to a Redondo residence on an unknown trouble call. Upon arrival a loud argument was heard at the location. It was determined that domestic violence had occurred but the male was extremely uncooperative, allegedly kicking an officer as he was being taken into custody. The subject was subdued and arrested.
Two suicides
At 12:41 a.m. on Oct. 27 officers responded to the 2100 block of Curtis on a reported suicide involving a firearm. At 8:30 a.m. officers responded with the fire department to a location on the 400 block of S. Juanita on a reported victim of a hanging. Both incidents are under investigation and appear to be suicides with no signs of foul play.
Checkpoint
On Friday, Nov. 2 between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., the Redondo Beach Police Department will be conducting a driver's license checkpoint at the 100 block of N. Catalina Avenue, between Diamond Street and Emerald Street.The checkpoint is one of several scheduled in the months to come and is funded by grants from the State Office Of Traffic Safety and Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
