Musician alert
Local musician Dave Robyn reported that nearly all his equipment was stolen on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from a vehicle parked on the 1600 block of Catalina Avenue. The thief or thieves took two Community P.A. cabinets, a Samson 8channel mixer, a Yamaha SPX-90 reverb, a Mesa Boogie guitar amp, and a gig bag, cables, and Dave Robyn CDs. "They stole my livelihood," said Robyn. Contact him at 944-9190 if you have any information about the stolen equipment. Police are investigating.
Hate crime
On Monday, Oct. 15 at about 11 p.m., an American of Lebanese descent was stopped in his car at a red light near Inglewood Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard when a white Nissan pulled up next to his car. There were three suspects in the other car yelling at him to "go back to Iran m-----f-----". The suspects apparently threw something that shattered the victim's passenger side window. The case is under investigation.
Anthrax Scare
On Friday, Oct. 19, officers responded to a residence in the 2200 block of Ruhland at 6:30 p.m. to investigate a suspicious letter. The resident had received a letter from Florida from someone unknown. Officers requested Fire Department (Hasmat) assistance. The letter was collected and packaged for safety. The case is under investigation.
Stolen car recovered
Early Tuesday morning, Oct. 23 Investigator Hyde learned the whereabouts of a stolen vehicle, and the regional auto theft task force (TRAP) set up a trap to in order to capture the suspected car thief. At 8:06 a.m., a 20-year-old man entered the car and drove away, and both TRAP and patrol officers followed. The man refused to stop, eventually abandoning the car and taking off on foot at the 2600 block of Sprekels Lane, where the police pursued and were able to capture their suspect at a nearby residence.
