UNWANTED SILVER LINING: Hermosan Michael Binder, who arranges charter flights for business magnates and celebrities such as Jack Nicholson and Puff Daddy, has seen a large increase in business since the Sept. 11 tragedy on the East Coast. Clients who used to mix charter flights with regular jetliner trips have gone all charter, and clients who had been considering changing from airline flights to charter have decided to make the switch. "This is not how I would ever want my business to increase," Binder said. "It was an American tragedy, nothing anybody in my industry would want to happen."

CAMPAIGN CENTRAL: That’s how Hermosa councilman Sam Edgerton, who is not up for re-election, described the Hermosa Woman’s Club’s annual pancake breakfast Sunday morning at the Clark Community Center. While the candidates worked the tables inside, their supporters planted rows of campaign signs in the grass in front of the building. But the signs were quickly removed after one late-arriving candidate pointed out that it is illegal to post signs on city property.
