Charity yacht cruise
A sunset cruise Friday, Nov. 2 aboard the 65-foot yacht "Galatea" will benefit the Beach Cities Toy Drive. The cruise, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., is sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau and will feature live entertainment, food from local restaurants and a cash bar.
The "Galatea" is owned by High Five Boutique on the Pier Plaza, and the cruise will replace the fund-raising fashion shows High Five used to host for the holiday toy drive.
Tickets are $20 and are available at the Chamber, 1007 Hermosa Ave. opposite the Comedy & Magic Club, and High Five, 53D Pier Ave. The "Galatea," docked at 161 N. Harbor Drive in the Redondo Beach Marina, accommodates 80 passengers, and a second cruise will be added that evening if more than 80 tickets are sold, organizers said.
The toy drive benefits underprivileged children in the South Bay.
More electioneering
Last weeks pre-election forum hosted by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau will be shown 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 on Adelphia cable channel 8.
Participating in the forum were candidates for city council on the Nov. 6 ballot, and prominent supporters and opponents of the three ballot measures.
Longtime teacher dies in collision
Councilman JR Reviczky on Tuesday paid tribute to Judy Marks, a Hermosan and longtime educator who died following a weekend traffic accident near Grass Valley, Calif.
"Judy Marks was a dear friend of mine," Reviczky said at a regular meeting of the city council.
Marks, who was 60, was a teacher at Hermosas old South School from 1965 until its closure in 1978, Reviczky said. She went on to teach in the Lennox public school district, Reviczky said.
Marks was returning to Hermosa from a visit to her sister in Grass Valley when the accident occurred, Reviczky said.
Marks husband Kenny was one of the guiding forces behind the Veterans Memorial at Pier Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.
