Basketball clinic
On Saturday, Oct. 27 the Redondo Beach Youth Basketball is having a fundamentals clinic for boys and girls in grades 3rd through 8th at Aviation Gym (corner of Aviation and Manhattan Beach boulevards) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The $20 fee includes T-shirt and $10 off RBYB league fees. To register no later than Oct. 20, call 798-RBYB.
Volleyball fundraiser
Play beach volleyball and help the families and victims affected by the Sept. 11 attack on America. A co-ed 6-on-6 beach volleyball tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 4 beginning at 9 a.m. at the beach volleyball courts south of the Manhattan Beach Pier. All of the tournament entry fees will be donated to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ Emergency Relief Fund. The entry fee is $150 for a non-sponsored team and $250 for a sponsored team. Teams can register at the tournament, but it is recommended to pre-register. Online registration can be made at http://beachtourney.iwarp.com. Basketball leagues
Redondo Beach Recreation is having men’s open and 6’2" and under basketball leagues starting the week of Nov. 30. Registration is going on now until Friday, Oct. 26. Contact Dave Albright at 318-0610, ext. 3533.
SB Volleyball club
The 2001 tryouts for the South Bay Volleyball Club for girls 18 and under are Sunday, Oct. 28 from 2-5 p.m. An all age makeup tryout will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m.-noon. Arrive a half-hour early to complete paperwork. Rolling Hills Prep, 1780-A Oak St., Torrance. $10 tryout fee. For questions call 328-SBVC.
Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball
Boys and girls kindergarten through 8th grade in the beach cities are eligible to participate in the City of Hermosa Beach Youth Basketball League. All games are played indoors in the Community Center Gym at 710 Pier Ave. The cost to play is $70 for the first player in a family, $65 for the second and $45 for each additional player, although some partial or full scholarships are available. The cost includes a uniform. Try-outs are mandatory, but everyone gets to play regardless of skill level. Try-outs are on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21 and 27-28. For specific times when the try-outs will be held for boys and girls call 372-BALL.
