History: Saturday Night Live made its debut on October 11, 1975 with guest host George Carlin. Where were you? New Menu: Flavio’s Viva La Pasta!, PV Drive West, Lunada Bay, has made some new additions to his menu to go along with some recent remodeling. Grand Opening: Polonez Kaffee, Euro Cuisine, Corner PCH and Anza, Torrance. Grand Opening Two: Siam Cha Cha, Thai Resto, PCH at the top of Pier Ave, HB in the site previously occupied by Big Wok. Check out their very chic website at siamchacha.com. Now Open: Catalina Coffee Company, North Catalina Ave, RB, the only coffee house in the South Bay to roast coffee beans on site is now open and remodeled in the space previously occupied by Yesterday’s. Now Playing: Late Night Catechism at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse, Pier Ave, HB, running now through Sunday, October 28. I’m getting penance flashbacks, "Now say seven Our Fathers and five Hail Mary’s and you will be absolved my child." Yeah right. Happy Anniversary: Happy 40th to the "Theme Building" at LAX. Once was a coffee shop, the building is now home to Encounter Restaurant thanks to the "imagineering" revamp by Walt Disney a few years ago. Reminder: Hermosans, be sure to get registered and vote. The deadline for registration is this Sunday, October 21. You can pick up registration forms at any of Pier Plaza’s hotspots. Let your voice be heard…

Sports: NFL First "Quarter" Observations: Best: It looks like the Rams are back to their 1998 Super Bowl form as they are thus far undefeated at 5-0 coming out of week 5; Worst: Thanks to Stephen Davis’s fumble in Monday night’s "Toilet Bowl" against the hapless Cowboys, the Redskins are now 0-5; biggest Surprise: Take your pick: Tennessee not winning a game until week 4 or San Diego and Chicago already matching last year’s combined win total, (SD was 1-15, da Bears 5-11); Crazy: NY Jets safety Damien Robinson was charged last week with possession of a firearm after entering Giants Stadium with an assault rifle, three high capacity magazines and two boxes of ammo — gives new meaning to the shotgun formation. MLB: The Yanks made it to the Championship Series by the skin of their pin stripes becoming the first team ever to lose the first two games at home and come back to win a five game series. They take on Ichiro and the record breaking Seattle Mariners. In the National League, Atlanta needs a victory over Arizona in game two in order to avoid taking an 0-2 record into game three Friday night. My Mets are out so I don’t have anything else to say…
