New Band: Local fave Joe Middler of Joe’s Band has disbanded some dead weight and is now performing as The New Joe’s Band. Catch them this Saturday night at 705, Pier Ave, HB. Newly remodeled: The new 1950s style McDonald’s re-opened last week on Artesia, MB. Almost as cool as the Great Gatsby style mansion McDonald’s on Long Island, NY. I did say almost. Did You Know: The chain Chipotle, "gourmet burritos" is backed by none other than Mickey D’s? The nearest location in the South Bay is Morningside Drive/Manhattan Beach Boulevard, MB. Saturday Night Event: Stems & Seeds four-piece band headed by Mike "Wally" Waltman jams two sets of original funk-rock this Saturday, August 25 at The Pitcher House, 2nd and PCH, HB. If you’ve ever seen Wally perform, you know what I mean by "original." The band goes on around 10:20pm, (making it 4:20 in Kiribati, a remote island in Mironesia, South Pacific. You may remember Kiribati as being the first spot to turn Y2K. This is all very important information). AVP Manhattan Open Player Party: This Saturday, August 25 after the "Wimbledon of beach volleyball," MB Pier, 8am-5pm, join volleyballers and spectators alike at Beaches, MBB, MB to toast the famous sand-sport and those who get paid to play aka very smart people. (Top seeds include Olympians Eric Fonoimoana and Karch Kiraly).The party, sponsored by Smack Sportswear and Michelob Light and hosted by Bill "Siggy" Sigler of Smack, Kevin "KB" Barry of Sangria and Chris "Geeter" McGee starts at 9pm with DJ, drink specials, martini bar and dancing all night. $5 cover.
