Worship service 50th anniversary
Resurrection Lutheran Church is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first worship service and is inviting the South Bay community to join the celebration. Village Runner 5K Run/Walk
The 8th annual Village Runner 4th of July 5K Run/Walk and Childrens Firecracker Dash begins at 8 a.m. at 1811 S. Catalina Ave., RB. Late registration begins at 6:30 a.m., the 5K Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m. and the kids firecracker dash is at 9:15 a.m. 375-2626.
Redondo Beach
The Redondo Beach Pier Concerts start today with surf rock band Hula Monsters performing from 5-7 p.m. and Island Jam, a steel drum band playing from 7:30-9 p.m. A fireworks show, free to the public, will be shot off a barge in the Redondo Beach Harbor at approximately 9 p.m. The best viewing areas will be from the pier and surrounding areas. 374-2171.

This 40th annual celebration will start a day of old-fashioned family fun at 9:30 a.m., with patriotic music, an apple pie contest, a childrens decorated bicycle parade, and a puppet show. Tom Sullivan will be the keynote speaker as the formal program begins at 11 a.m. followed by a bi-plane flyover, picnic and family games. Everyone is welcome. Rancho Palos Verdes
The City of Rancho Palos Verdes 26th annual celebration is being held at the Pt. Vicente Park/Civic Center, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd. beginning at 11 a.m. with nonstop fun until 5 p.m. Listen to live music performed by Sweet Surrender, and the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band. Shop in the arts and crafts area and enjoy a variety of rides and games for all ages. There are also pie eating and hula-hoop contests, and a Jim Gamble puppet show.
