Blood needed

A critical shortage of blood has forced blood banks to hit the road. The Red Cross Blood Mobile will be set up in front of the Beach Cities Health Center, 514 N. Prospect Ave., 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 25. All blood types are needed and appointments can be made by calling 374-3426 ext. 198.

Police officers’ ball

Redondo Rotarians are soliciting donations to their annual Police Reserve Officer Awards Banquet Tuesday, May 29. Police reserves serve as volunteers and donations pay for the cost of the dinner as well as equipment and training. Donations can be made to out to Redondo Rotary Club and mailed to Redondo Beach Police Department, 401 Diamond St., Redondo Beach CA 90277, Attn. Bill Mona.

Le grand prix

Stacy Claxon, a Redondo Union senior, received the annual Sue Nies Scholarship Award for Scholastic excellence. She shares the award which has a minimum value of $500 with Mira Costa’s Marissa Schmidt. The award honors Sue Nies, a longtime teacher at both Mira Costa and Redondo Union and is presented to students who display academic excellence among other qualities and plan to pursue their language studies through college.
