Police Beat: Manhattan Beach

A Cup of Joe to Go

A shift supervisor at the Starbucks in downtown Manhattan Beach has apparently stolen more than $5,000 from the coffee store, police said. On Thursday, the manager of Starbucks reported to police that the suspect, who had worked at Starbucks for more than two years, had disappeared. His duties included auditing the day’s receipts, recording the receipts, and then taking the receipts to a local bank. On May 3, the manager said, the suspect called from out-of-state and asked for a bereavement leave. On May 7 the suspect called and asked about a leave of absence. He said he was in Mississippi, but was otherwise vague about his situation, police said. The suspect was told to call back on May 14, but he never called and has not been heard from since. Subsequent investigation revealed that $5,842 that should have been deposited was never deposited, police said. ER
