Longer Week-end: Ein Stein’s, Pier Ave, HB just keeps pushing back the week-end. First it was a dance club Fridays and Saturdays, then DJ Armando started promoting Thursday nights and now Trey and Silent Dave in association with Funk That Productions are promoting Wednesday nights. No cover from 9pm-1am, DJ MC Tazz spinning Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap, and "Rare Grooves," $2 house pints, $3 well drinks, $2 polar shots, $5 well martinis — who drinks well alcohol? I guess Sunday, Monday and Tuesday is the week-end away from the week-end…

Here We Go Again: This Memorial Day Week-end Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28, enjoy or abhor the 26th Annual Fiesta Hermosa, Downtown HB, the temporary annihilation of our sleepy little beach town, overrun from 10am-6pm daily with visitors, arts and crafts vendors, kiddie games for the kiddies, live entertainment, beer garden thank-you-very-much, and food. The event is sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce. I’ll be happy when it’s over…

Goodbye Party: Well sort of — I just needed a tag line actually. This Sunday night, May 27 at Ein Stein’s, Pier Ave, HB, join Berry Bly from Soul Shaker, Jeffrey Buscher from VIPmodel.com and Steve Fowler formerly of Sunsets/Beaches, Harry O’s, The Firm, etc for a party on Bly’s last night in town before moving to Virginia. The Other Side Of The Table: Reactions to my "Tipping" comments in the April 12 column varied from cheers from service industry folk to jeers from patrons with complaints of the high incidence of poor service here in the South Bay and what should they do if not under tip. My answer to that is this: should you suffer through a meal due to poor service, the best thing to do is to tip adequately (no less than 15 percent), and then complain (with specifics), to the owner/manager. In saying that, should you complain and then the server/owner/manager and then they look at the bill and see you left five or ten percent, guess where your comments will go? That’s right — in one ear and out the other as you are probably just a miserable person anyway. On the other hand, when you leave the proper tip and then complain you seem more credible and the server/owner/manager will be more apt to take your comments to heart.
(Remember that the word "TIPS" comes from the acronym, "To Insure Promptness of Service.") My mom always taught me to "keep my side of the street clean." If you do that, karma should bring the rest back to you…

Sports: This week-end and the upcoming week should prove exciting for round-ball fans with games just about everyday starting tonight, Thursday, May 24 with game two of the East Finals, Milwaukee at Philly, 5:30pm, tomorrow, Friday, May 25, game three of the West Finals, San Antonio at the Lakers, 6pm and continuing everyday alternating conferences through next Wednesday, May 30 game sevens if necessary. In hockey, Lemieux, which translates from French to "The Best," couldn’t get his Penguins past the Devils. New Jersey will attempt to repeat Stanley Cup victories beginning this Saturday, May 26 at 5pm against the Colorado Avalanche…
