"Theater" in a crowded firehouse
Get a closeup view of the shiny new pumper trucks at the Redondo Beach Fire Department open house Saturday, May 12 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Free hot dogs and refreshment will be provided at Fire Station One, 401 S. Broadway and Fire Station Two, 2400 Grant Ave. Displays from paramedics, utility companies and the community emergency response team will be presented.
Dog park dally
Better start prepping the pup for the Redondo Beach Dog Park’s Spring Fling Sunday, May 13. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. for the "Paws to the pavement" dog walk, which begins at 9 a.m. Entrants receive a T-shirt, goody bag and refreshments for their $10 entry fee. All dogs must be on a leash for the walk that should take less than 20 minutes. Prizes will be awarded for the best "Spring Fling" bonnet or collar and an auction will be held. Out of the closet
Boy Scouts want your old clothes. Bring anything you haven’t worn in the past decade to the office of Redondo Beach schools Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11. On Saturday, May 12 scouts will hold a drive-through drop off from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Adams Middle School, 2600 Ripley Ave. Clothes, canned goods and used books will be donated to missions helping the homeless in downtown Los Angeles. Spring Carnival
The Jefferson School Parent Teacher Association will hold its Spring Carnival on the school grounds, 600 Harkness Lane Friday, May 11 starting at 4 p.m. Prizes in the auction include a signed Britney Spears doll, a ride on the Goodyear blimp and a Direct TV package.
Volunteer policeman’s ball
Redondo Rotarians are soliciting donations to their annual Police Reserve Officer Awards Banquet. Police reserves serve as volunteers and donations pay for the cost of the dinner as well as equipment and training.
