Jefferson school was closed Thursday afternoon following reports that a bomb had been planted on school grounds. A police investigation revealed the threats, reportedly made by two Anaheim teenagers, were a hoax, officials said.
"In todays climate we have to treat every threat as if it were the real thing," said Redondo Unified School District Spokesman Jerry Klein.
Children playing on the schools field in an after-school program reported that the teens had told them there was a bomb in the school. The children told their instructors who reported the incident to school administration at about 3:30 p.m.
The school was locked down and police officers investigated the reports. No explosive devices were found, and two teenagers were questioned. Police searched the home of one of the youths but found no bomb making materials or information, Klein said. No arrests were made, and police determined that the comments had been a hoax, he said.
On Friday, Jefferson School Principal Jeanne Keith sent a letter to parents explaining the incident. ER
