The Street Legends basketball team is known for setting the court on fire.
Good thing the visiting team at this weekends game will be made up of Redondo Beach firefighters.
Proceeds from the game, held at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 12 at the Redondo Union High School gym, 631 Vincent Park, will provide scholarships for the Street Legends after-school and summer basketball camps.
The Street Legends program teaches kids from kindergarten to Sixth grade to shoot three-pointers and set a pick like a champ.
Firefighters have been training for their upcoming match by playing twice a week at Fire Station 2. But the Street Legends team will have the advantage over Redondos firefighters, who will have spent all day at the departments open house, said Navarro Dixon, the programs coordinator.
"Id like to think were the favorites. But its not about winning or losing, its about helping kids play ball," he said.
The $5 admission includes a halftime show featuring rap artists, television personalities and basketball contests.
Street Legends has been talking tough about taking down the police department once theyve finished with the firefighters. But after the drubbing the police gave the Adams School staff, the Street Legends team might want to think twice about trying to fight the law. ER
