Ferrari Club of America plans Concours at Botanical Garden

The Ferrari Club of America - Southwest Region will display more than 40 of the world's most beautifully maintained and valuable Italian sport cars when it hosts its Inaugural Invitational Concours d'Elegance. The event will take place Sunday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, California.

The Concours d'Elegance, one of several such shows hosted throughout the year in the Western U.S. The Ferrari Club of America - Southwest Region, is open to the public for $5. Attendees will be able to view rare Ferrari entries from every production era, with just one of each model displayed. Judging will begin at 10 a.m., and an awards presentation will take place at 1 p.m. The event also kicks off the prominent "International Meet 2002," Ferrari Club of America's international conclave that takes place next year from May 22-26 in Los Angeles.

"The response to our member invitations has been outstanding. All the entries will be spectacular," said Tom Brockmiller, Events Chairman of the Southwest region. "This will be one of the finest collections of Ferraris ever seen in Southern California, and the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Garden complete the experience at this Concours d'Elegance."

Ferrari specialist Steve Tillack will provide a number of the early model cars at the Concours d'Elegance, including a 1951 340 America Coupe by Touring, a 1961 short-wheelbase Berlinetta and a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export. Don West, Concours Chairman, also played a crucial role in organizing the event.

"This is not going to be just the usual bunch of shiny cars displayed on grass," said Tillack. "We're going to have 50 years of production Ferraris at the Concours d'Elegance, with no two vehicles the same. Everyone who attends is going to be awestruck by these magnificent machines."

This 340 America Coupe will be among the 50 Ferraris’ on display Sunday, May 20 at the South Coast Botanical Garden.

In addition to its slated entries, the Concours d'Elegance will display three Ferraris from the legendary 1950 "La Carrera Panamericana" road race, the 2000-mile contest through the wilds of Mexico that celebrated the completion of the Panamerican Highway.

Over the years, the Ferrari Club of America - Southwest Region has held its annual Concours d'Elegance in a variety of California locations, including Santa Monica, Monterey and Palos Verdes Estates. Along with Southern California, the club's Southwest region includes Southern Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii.

With more than 4,800 members, the Ferrari Club of America is the largest organization of its kind in the world. Members in regions throughout the U.S. and Canada maintain a full calendar of events and social activities. The club's annual international meetings, such as next year's "International Meet 2002," feature hundreds of Ferraris from around the world, as well as car rallies, track events and banquets.

The South Coast Botanic Garden is at 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the South Bay. For more information call Paul Browning at (310) 791-2759. ER
