Police Beat: Hermosa Beach

Garage thievery

Two travelers suffered losses when their cars were broken into as they sat in the three-story municipal parking structure on Hermosa Avenue Sunday afternoon.

A Simi Valley man left his Ford Contour on the structure’s first level about noon, and when he returned about 2 p.m. he found that someone had broken in and stolen several items. Missing were a $300 cell phone, payroll checks from the state of California totaling $556, a social security card, a passport, a plane ticket that had been purchased for $1,050, a laptop computer, a watch with engraved work on its back, and a passport, the man reported to police.

A Hermosa man parked a Pontiac Sunfire on the structure’s third level and returned to find that someone had punched one of the door locks and broken in.

Stolen were $2,500 in traveler’s checks, some cash, a backpack and a passport.

Identity theft

A Hermosa woman found money missing from her checking account, and it was determined that someone had used the account information to make a purchase from a Ticketmaster outlet and a place called the Body Shop at Houston Intercontinental Airport in Texas, police said. ER
